Wanna see Google China in action? Do an image search for “tiananmen“. Then do the same on regular Google (via Guardian Technology Blog).
I don’t envy the guys at Google. The decision between taking the Chinese government shaft and staying out of China sounds awful enough that I hope I’ll never have to make it.
On the other hand, it is a very simple decision: you can’t stay out of China. Unless you’re a one-person software shop operating out of a coffehouse, you can’t.
But Google has crossed a line here. No matter what they say and no matter how you look at it and how you rationalize it, we can all kiss don’t be evil goodbye.
